Rename

"Lallation" is used primarily to refer to two things: lambdacism (a speech disorder, which we don't want to imply) and baby talk/gibberish (which we definitely don't want to imply).

To avoid negative connotations, we need to rename this article. The problem is selecting a suitable name; per Wikipedia, there isn't really a specific term for the swapping of /r/ and /l/.

Here's some ideas:

  • Perception of English /r/ and /l/ by Japanese speakers
This is the current Wikipedia article name. It's a long one, though, and it doesn't really reflect the fact that these mix-ups have been officially published. It just refers to their perception.
  • Swapping of L and R
Suggested by fokfokowaty/seal on Discord, with the caveat "but that sounds like shit"
  • English /r/ and /l/ errors
This is one of my ideas. It's shorter, but the use of the word "error" is unintentionally ironic with all of those /r/'s.

If anyone has any name ideas, please feel free to reply below. SlyCooperFan1 (talk) 16:11, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

I am not familiar with linguistic terms, but "Liquid phonemes in Ace Combat" is what I have in mind after looking up relevant terms on Wikipedia (see liquid consonant and phoneme). This should fit our needs without making it sound like we are pointing at errors or mistakes caused by the developers or the localisation teams. - Qbicle (talk) 08:52, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
