Peek-a-boom
Peek-a-boom[a] is a software application used for retrieving information on specific terminology. It was released by the academic publishing company Glossary Study Limited and supports Data Swallow versions 3.0.1 and later. When users enter a keyword into Peek-a-boom, the application searches the Electrosphere and displays corresponding information and color pictures.[1]
Peek-a-boom is used as the in-universe explanation for the Search Engine feature in the Japanese version of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere.
Etymology
"Peek-a-boom" is based on the phrase "peek-a-boo" which is used to play with infants and develop their understanding of object permanence. The Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere - Mission & World View Guide Book plays on the latter fact, describing the phrase "peek-a-boo" as "the magic words for data retrieval."[2]
